Wondrous Strange: The Wyeth Tradition : Howard Pyle, N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, James Wyeth Details
From Library Journal This extensively illustrated catalog accompanies the exhibition of the same name organized by the Delaware Art Museum and the Farnsworth Art Museum. Surveying the work of the great illustrator Howard Pyle and his premier student, N.C. Wyeth, the catalog explores the artistic tradition of Pyle and Wyeth as played out in the works of Wyeth's son Andrew and Andrew's son James. The plates in this catalog are its chief virtue. An excellent selection of some of the most haunting and enigmatic works by the four painters are beautifully reproduced and, in the case of book or magazine illustrations, carefully cited. But short essays on the artists provide only the briefest of glimpses into their work. For more on the eldest Wyeth, see David Michaelis's N.C. Wyeth: A Biography (LJ 10/15/98). An optional purchase for all but in-depth collections of American art.?Martin R. Kalfatovic, Smithsonian Inst. Libs., Washington, DCCopyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc. Read more
